They say that exercise keeps you young, but, if you’re getting on a bit, could a few Wii Fit sessions a week be enough to keep you in tip top condition? Well that’s exactly what researchers at the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian are trying to find out. They’re looking for some over 70’s that are prepared to help them with some pretty fun, and potentially lifesaving research into the impact of Wii Fit use amongst the elderly. Around 90% of geriatric hip fractures come about as the result of falling, and this study is trying to determine what impact regular use of the balance board can have on an old person’s ability to remain upright. The study, which is being funded by the British Geriatrics Society, hit upon the idea of using the Wii balance board after they were unable to raise enough money to cover the costs of the expensive, specialised equipment that they were originally going to use. So, if you’re over 70, live in the Aberdeen area and have, in the last year, had a fall, they’d like to hear from you. Give them a call on 01224 556789 and they’ll arrange an assessment to work out whether you’re a suitable candidate.

These statistics come from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata who announced earlier this week that the company has sold nearly 300,000 copies of Wii Fit in the US alone and over 100,000 in Europe during January 2009. WOW!  When other companies are feeling the pinch, Nintendo reports an  increase in sales. These are pretty impressive statistics. These figures aren’t including the rest of the world either, in Japan they have shifted huge volumes of Wii Fit. For those business bods out there, here is a chart from Nintendo displaying the sales of Wii Fit in the US and Europe since December 08:

If this is the Japanese way of encouraging you to eat sensibly, start exercising and buy a Wii Fit – I would like to see what their food ads are like. I don’t want to exercise, I want to eat!

A book on how to get fit on the Wii Fit! We haven’t seen a copy of Get Fit On Wii Fit, but the general consensus from the online reviews we’ve seen is that perhaps you shouldn’t part with your pennies just yet.  When we get hold of a copy, we’ll let you know what we think. Anyhow, we can tell you how to get fit on the Wii Fit in one sentence:  Get on it and switch it on!

The Wii Fit has made it nine weeks at the top of the Wii chart. SOURCE

It’s no surprise really is it?  It’s almost as predictable as the X Factor Christmas No1 (well done Simon Cowell for ruining that ‘tradition’) the only difference being that Wii Fit genuinely deserves the top spot.

The Wii Fit is brilliant, and it works.  Lets see if it will have a Christmas No 1 of it’s own!
